As soon as fall weather hits, I notice my feet start getting chilly in the evenings. We are lucky to have radiant floor heating, so our toes do stay a little warmer in the mornings when we are walking around.

However, there is nothing worse than cold toes in my opinion. So, I love looking for that perfectly cozy and warm slipper for the fall and winter months!

Today I am rounding up the best slippers for women, I hope you enjoy and grab yourself a pair!

House Shoes vs. Slippers: What’s the Difference?

House shoes

House shoes are a low shoe that can be slipped on and off easily. They are typically only worn indoors. They are not always worn for warmth, but to keep carpets and rugs clean while adding comfort to your feet.

Slippers

Slippers are typically worn to keep feet and toes warm during chilly weather. It’s an indoor shoe that slips easily on and off your foot, hence the name slipper. Slippers are typically made of big cozy fabrics, fluffy and soft.

Are sheepskin slippers worth it?

There are many benefits to sheepskin slippers that make them a good investment for many people, however it really is a personal preference.

Benefits of sheepskin slippers

  • Warm and cozy:  Sheepskin is a natural insulator, so it keeps your feet warm and cozy in the winter.
  • Breathable:  Sheepskin is also breathable, so they don’t make your feet sweat.
  • Odor-resistant:  Sheepskin contains lanolin, a natural substance that has antibacterial properties. This helps to keep your feet smelling fresh, however your feet may still get hot.
  • Durable:  Sheepskin slippers are very durable and can last for many years with proper care.
  • Comfortable:  Sheepskin is soft and plush, making sheepskin slippers extremely comfortable to wear.

Drawbacks of sheepskin slippers

  • Expensive:  Sheepskin slippers can be more expensive than other types of synethetic material slippers.
  • High maintenance:  Sheepskin slippers do require regular care to keep them looking and feeling their best.

If you are looking for a pair of high-quality, durable slippers that will keep your feet warm and cozy all winter long, then sheepskin slippers are a great option.

Most Comfortable Slippers for women

Before I share all these amazing slippers, I need to say a few things. First off, the most cozy house shoes for hardwood floors are ones that have a bit of a sole to them. Hardwood floors are notoriously slippery and having a softer sole might feel nice, but you will be gliding all over the place. So be sure to take into consideration what type of flooring you have in your home before you pick a slipper.

Sole Type : Indoor-only vs. Indoor/Outdoor

When choosing the right cozy slipper, deciding between an indoor-only or an indoor/outdoor sole comes down to your daily routine.

Indoor-only slippers usually feature soft suede, felt, or fabric bottoms designed strictly for plush comfort, quiet steps, and protecting delicate hardwood floors from scuffs.

However, if you frequently step outside to grab the mail, walk the dog, or sip coffee on the patio, an indoor/outdoor sole is essential. These pairs are built with durable, water-resistant rubber or EVA tread that provides traction on slick surfaces and shields the fabric from wet grass or dirt, saving you from constantly switching into real shoes throughout the day.

Arch Support: Low, Moderate, High

Finding the right level of arch support is key to keeping your feet comfortable, especially if you spend long hours standing on hard surfaces like tile or hardwood.

Low arch support offers a flexible, bare-foot feel with soft cushioning, making it ideal for relaxed lounging or short wear.

Moderate arch support provides a balanced blend of contouring and cushion, perfect for everyday wear around the house without feeling overly rigid.

For those who deal with foot fatigue, plantar fasciitis, or need maximum stability, slippers with high arch support feature structured footbeds—often made with contoured EVA or orthopedic cork—that properly align your feet and absorb impact with every step.

Material: Sheepskin, Wool, Synthetic

The material of your slippers determines not just how soft they feel, but how well they regulate temperature and hold up over time.

Sheepskin and shearling offer luxury-level insulation with natural lanolin that wicks away moisture and naturally resists odor, making them an investment that keeps feet warm without overheating.

Wool is another fantastic natural option that excels at breathability and temperature regulation; it delivers lightweight, cozy warmth and molds to the shape of your foot over time.

If you prefer a budget-friendly or vegan alternative, synthetic materials (like faux fur, microfiber, and fleece) offer ultra-plush softness right out of the box and are typically easy to machine wash, though they lack the natural breathability and long-term durability of real wool or shearling.

What slippers don’t smell?

There is nothing worse than having non-breathable slippers that make your feet smell, so let’s talk a bit about tips to help that issue!

Slippers that are made from breathable and moisture-wicking materials are less likely to smell. Some good options include wool, linen, cotton and bamboo materials.

The style of the slippers can also play a role in how smelly they become. Slippers with open toes and backs allow for more airflow, which helps to keep your feet cool and dry. This can help to reduce odor.

Here are some additional tips to help keep your slippers from smelling:

  • Wear socks with your slippers to absorb moisture and sweat.
  • Take your slippers off when you come inside to air them out.
  • Sprinkle your slippers with baking soda or cornstarch to help absorb odor.
  • Put your slippers in the freezer overnight to kill bacteria.

If your slippers do start to smell, you can try washing them in a mild detergent. However, be sure to follow the care instructions carefully, as some materials, such as wool, can be damaged by machine washing.

And don’t forget… slippers make awesome gifts, too! Pin this great roundup for later.
