INSIDE : Learn how to take an old Cassette Case and repurpose it into a fun chalkboard Memory Box to fill with special treasures and mementos.
I recently stopped by a local thrift store and found a few wonderfully old pieces of luggage for quite a bargain of a price. See how I was able to take this old Cassette Case turned Memory Box for my son’s little treasures!
How to transform an old cassette case into a memory box:
My first step was removing the actual cassette plastic holder. Then I ripped out the faux leather/plastic material on the top interior.
Next, Mod Podge to the rescue. I applied a light coat to the sides and bottom. I had intended on doing both the top and bottom with the fabric, but it seemed too busy.
Instead, I left the top without the fabric and painted it a bold yellow color with simple acrylic paint.

I have done so many fun painted and patterned boxes over the years!
Here are a few of my favorite ones.
Floral Painted Wooden Box | Cacti Embroidered Box | Marbled Box | Button Box
Geometric Thread Box | Memory Box | Onesie Shadow Box | Floral Painted Box
Great idea Amy , Simple and pretty. I would never have thought of chalk board paint on a box..
Best Regards,
Anima
I’m a new co-host for the Create and Share Link Party, and I just love this project so much that I’m going to be featuring it at tonight’s party!!! Hope to see you there (starts at 6:00 pm MST)! 🙂 http://designsbymissmandee.blogspot.com/
Lady, you are a genius! I love this so much. Thanks for sharing at Project Inspire{d}.
Very cute! I held on to one of these filled with my cassettes from high school forever. (I’m pretty sure I just dated myself…oh well) XO
I redid a smaller CD case before but, I love the idea of using the chalk paint on the exterior! Yours turned out great! Thanks for sharing @DearCreatives party. Theresa
What a lovely idea. My kids have a show box each in the loft with 1st birthday cards, hair from their first haircuts, the wrist band from the hospital, cards they have made for each other over the years, that sort of thing. I am now thinking maybe I could put these things in something a bit nicer than an old shoe box!
This is such a fun idea! Now I’m wishing I’d held onto mine;)
Awwww, what a cute idea! It’s like a time capsule. And the cassette case…classic! I should do a memory box for Blake.
This is such a sweet idea! I love the tablecloth lining too! Good job on hanging on to that (I totally have the table cloth from my four year old’s first birthday party and it is not nearly as cute)
LOVE this. I redo suitcases all of the time for memory boxes and will be on the lookout for one of these too. Great size for little trinkets. I am working on another memory box for a friend for the blog too. They are so fun 🙂
What a cute idea, Amy! I especially love the lining. So sweet. I don’t currently have a memory box for my kids. Maybe when they get a bit older.
Ahh, so creative! I use to have one of those…darn it. I love the table cloth pattern. Too cute (and smart!)
Such a great transformation and a super cute idea for a memory box- awesome Amy!! Pinned and stumbled!
I remember my mom having one of these when I was growing up! I love the transformation it turned out great. Very creative!
Every young person should have a place to keep their special treasures, and this is really cute 🙂
Oh my goodness! So cute!! Great idea.
