Beyond the clothing racks and household items, there’s a whole world of art waiting to be discovered at secondhand stores. Thrifted art offers a unique and affordable way to decorate your home while supporting a good cause.
Why Thrift for Art?
Thrifted art is often priced significantly lower than gallery pieces, making it easy for anyone no matter your income level to afford and love. Plus, there are so many one of a kind pieces that you can find when thrifting, as opposed to buying art from a big box store like Target.
By choosing thrifted art, you’re reducing waste and giving a second life to pieces that might have otherwise been discarded.

Tips for Finding Thrifted Art
Many thrift stores have dedicated art section where you can find a variety of pieces. But don’t be afraid to really dig in there because sometimes the best ones are hidden among the millions of “Live laugh love” signs. Take your time and do some exploring!
Something that is always really important for me is the frame the art comes with. It can significantly impact the overall look of a piece. If you’re not a fan of the current frame, consider spray painting it or you can always replace it with something that better suits your style.
Ideas for Incorporating Thrifted Art into Your Home
There are so many fun uses for thrifted art in your home. Sometimes I love creating a gallery wall with a collection of thrifted art, textural pieces, a vintage mirror and more.
You can also use thrifted art as a bold statement on your wall. Finding a large thrifted artwork could be the perfect centerpiece for a room.
Or you could just mix and match styles. Don’t be afraid to combine new art with vintage art for a unique and eclectic look.
Creating something new from Thrifted Art
Another option of something you could do with thrifted art is create your own new art from it.
Larger sized canvas’ can sometimes be expensive and finding cool and interesting frames get costly fast. So being able to find a thrifted piece of art for, lets say $7 and painting over it can be a wonderful way to bring new life to an old, less desirable piece of art. I do this all the time.
Upcycle art
Painting the frame and art background in the same color of paint immediately gives your art a modern clean and unexpected look. You can follow this abstract flower painting tutorial for how to achieve this abstract look.
Thrifted art is a treasure trove waiting to be explored. With a little patience and creativity you can find pieces that will add character and personality to your home.
So, the next time you’re at a thrift store, be sure to check out the art section and see what hidden gems you can uncover.
