Candle holder from Thrifted Napkin Rings

Have you ever gone thrifting and you come back with something SO FUN, but then you end up not really having any purpose for it? Just me??!

Well, today’s craft project is a fun way that I was able to use cute thrifted napkin rings. Let’s get into the supplies needed below…

Supplies needed to make a candle holder

• Thrifted Napkin Rings (there are tons of cool wooden napkin rings available, too)
• Cork sheet
• Krazy Glue
• Candle
• Pencil, Paper + Sharpie Marker
• Optional : candle cup

MCM Wood and Gold Napkin Rings

I felt so fortunate when out thrifting to find a set of 6 wooden napkin rings! They were a hexagon shape on the outside and curved on the inside. Plus, they had the coolest Mid-Century Modern gold plate detail on three sides… I just fell in love and at $2 for the set of 6 I really had no other option than to buy them all.

Once home and the glow of a fun thrift find started to taper off… they just sat on a shelf in our dining room being unused. How often do we use cloth napkins that require napkin rings you may be asking?? Never is the answer, ha. So DIY to the rescue and now I use this fun thrift find all the time!

How to turn Napkin Rings into a Candle Holder

I started by giving each napkin ring a good cleaning. I oiled the wood portion and buffed the gold plate a bit.

Next, using krazy glue I stacked each napkin ring on top of each other to create one unit. Be sure to read your glue instructions and allow the glue to fully dry/cure.

While the glue was drying, I traced the inside circumference of the napkin rings onto a piece of paper to make a template.

After cutting out the paper template, I then traced it onto a sheet of cork with a thin Sharpie marker and cut it out also.

Depending on how thick your cork sheet is, you may need to cut out a few circles of cork and glue them together because this will be the base for your candle.

Once you have an adequate thickness, use your krazy glue and secure the cork to the inside of your napkin ring. Allow to fully dry.

To secure your candle in this trendy little candle holder, you have a few options. You can simply glue your candle to the cork, but you could also add a candle cup inside that the candle sits in.

Make sure to measure how big your candles are before purchasing a candle cup and then you can glue it inside!

I love how my soft blue taper candle looks in this rich wood and gold holder! It feels so MCM to me now and I love having it displayed on our bookcase.

Now whenever I go out thrifting, I am always on the lookout for thrifted napkin rings because there are endless candle holders to be made!
