Are you excited about learning to bring DIY skills into your home? If so, you are in the right place!! About six years ago, I had a moment of realization that I knew I could build cool things… I just didn’t know how.
However, I believe everyone was made to live a creative life and it was at that moment that I decided I was going to learn how to use power tools. I was going to find a few more simple wood related projects and start learning how to properly build, construct and enjoy this new DIY phase of my life!
Beginner Friendly DIY projects
As you enter this DIY power tool phase, it’s important to not attempt building a complex project to start off. You will probably have limited tools and beginner experience, but do not worry – everyone starts at the beginning!
There are so many cool projects you can start to tackle right off the block by using premade furniture pieces as the base! And as you become more comfortable with easy power tools like miter saws and nail guns, you can slowly take on more advanced projects.

Power Tool Rental
Now that hopefully the DIY ideas are flowing, it’s time to talk about the tools you may need to purchase, borrow or rent.
1. Neighbors often have tools. If you will be building something here and there, it might be a great idea to ask around your neighborhood or friends to see if they will loan you a must needed tool.
2. Home Depot has a rental service. Some tools are worth owning, but others are large and you only need for a short amount of time. Example, you probably won’t need a Walk Behind Concrete Saw on a daily basis (we rented one for 6 hours our backyard project).
If you aren’t ready to go buy, we’ve often used Home Depot’s rental service and it’s worked out wonderfully. Did you know you can even rent a truck from them? We’ve done it to pick up a large package once!

My favorite tool to this day is the simple miter saw. It’s powerful, but very simple to use. It does cost a bit more than say a jigsaw or nail gun, but it’s a tool that I use on almost every single DIY project that I build. The cordless drill also is a top tool choice!
