Pressed Leaf Frames

I am a leaf lover. There is something about trees that has always been so soothing to me. I love their size, their stability and when I’m around trees I just feel calm and relaxed. So it’s no surprise that I have done quite a few leaf related crafts and projects over the years!

And I can’t wait to get more into this beautiful project with you today. I made these glass frames with leaves and flowers for a local popup market I participated in and they were so popular! I made a few more and have them available for purchase below.

What supplies do I need to make pressed leaves in glass?

• Hanging Glass Frames (I got rectangle and moon shapes)
• Pressed Leaves
• Pressed Flowers
• SMALL Tweezers
• Fine point Clear glue
• Toothpicks

Leaf Placement

I found it so helpful to first start by laying out all of the leaves so I could see what ones I had and which would make the best composition.

I really can not stress enough how helpful it was to use tweezers. I broke so many dainty little flower leaf stems over the course of this project when I used only my fingers.

Take your time and play around. When placing leaves or flowers in different shaped frames, like the moons below, things get a bit more tight. So see which leaves fit best but still have a pretty layout.

Glueing leaves down

Once you are happy with the layout of your pressed leaves and flowers, you need to secure them in place. I found if I did not add a small dot of glue that the leaves would ever so slightly fall when I picked up the frames… and after all that gentle placement it was very frustrating.

See what works best for you, but I found making a small dot of glue on a plate and then using toothpicks to gently add the glue down worked the best.

Also it is important to use a glue that dries clear since you don’t want to see big glue dots once it dries.

If I used the glue directly it was too large a dab and made a mess. The toothpick seemed to be just enough to secure the leaves down, but not be visible.

Framed Leaves

Read the directions on your glue on how long to allow it to fully dry. Once the glue has dried you can now close up your frames.

These photos really do not capture the elegant detail of the leaves. The glare of the glass made it difficult to photograph, but they are so lovely in person!
