I have been sharing our the process of our very budget friendly kitchen renovation. We made a plan, demoed the old soffit, cabinets and then slowly started to rebuild it all back. We added texture to our walls and installed our cabinets.
Today I will be sharing on how to pick what color to make your cabinets. There are so many fun colors and combinations these days, so let’s get into more of the details now!
Picking kitchen cabinet colors
There are endless options for colors of kitchen cabinets. Selecting white, colored or even two toned can be exciting, but also overwhelming!
Here are some key factors to consider when deciding what color is best for your home.
Lighter colors in general open up small kitchens, while darker tones can make large ones feel cozier. So if you are looking to enhance the size of your kitchen without actually moving any walls, selecting white, cream or even soft grays, blues and greens can make your room feel bigger.
The same is true in regards to the amount of natural light in your kitchen space. Abundant natural light allows for bolder colors, while poor lighting benefits from lighter shades of cabinetry.
Popular Cabinet Color Choices
- Neutrals: White, cream, gray, and beige are timeless and versatile.
- Bold colors: Dark blues, greens, or blacks make a statement in large kitchens.
- Warm tones: Yellows and oranges create a cheerful and inviting atmosphere.
What are the most trendy two tone kitchen cabinet colors?
While trends and styles can shift, there are some particularly trendy two-tone kitchen cabinet color combinations for 2024 that you should be aware of if planning to work on a kitchen remodel.
Earthy and Natural:
- Green and Wood Tones: This nature-inspired pairing features earthy greens like sage or olive paired with warm wood tones for a balanced and serene atmosphere.
- Terracotta and Cream: Terracotta’s warmth creates a cozy and inviting feel, while cream adds lightness and prevents the space from feeling overwhelming. This trend draws inspiration from natural textures and materials.
- Black and White with Accents: Elevate the classic black and white combo with pops of color on open shelves, islands, or hardware. Consider jewel tones like emerald green or sapphire blue for a touch of luxury.
- Gray and Beige with Metallics: This timeless pairing gets a modern update with metallic accents like copper, brass, or nickel on hardware or cabinet pulls.
White kitchen cabinet perks
For our kitchen, we had contemplated just painting our existing cabinets, but they were original to the home and made of low quality materials. It seemed like a band-aide fix, not a solution.
After having dark and dingy cabinets, I knew I wanted white kitchen cabinets. White cabinets give a timeless look and are one of the top resale value color options. And if you can keep on top of maintenance and cleaning them occasionally, they make your kitchen look bigger and crisp!
