Hello readers.  I love design challenges and today I was challenged to create Fourth of July art using NO red, white or blue! Instead I used orange, peach, pink and gold colors on the Statue of Liberty.

How to make a Statue of Liberty 4th of July craft

To create this fun 4th of July art project, I started by downloading a Statue of Liberty shape online. I then used my Cricut to cut the shape out on black vinyl – any color will work because we are just looking to use it as stencil for this paint project.

I removed Lady Liberty and attached the contact paper to transfer the excess vinyl to my burlap sheet.

While in the Cricut software, I drew by hand the starburst pattern around the perimeter.  Since I was going to be sponge painting in the negative space, I removed the actual stickers and left the rest on my canvas.

I wanted to do a fun ombre effect with my Lady Liberty art in various shades of orange paint. I used a paper plate to place my orange, peach and pink. Then I was able to do some mixing for the in between acrylic paint colors.

Starting at the bottom of my State of Liberty, I applied my darkest orange color.

Then I put my peach color in the middle and then the pink at the very top. Once each three colors were applied, you can slowly start to mix the paints in between.

I also added gold to the outside and tapered it out the canvas.

Allow the paint to fully dry and then remove the vinyl sheet. And then there she is, the Statue of Liberty all completed without a speck of red, white or blue.

I added a little paper USA tag with a few baker twine ribbons and set it out on display in our home.
