This Christmas season, I was helping my local church decorate for one of the most important seasons of the year – the Advent Season. Over the years, I’ve shared DIY Advent Candles and an Advent Candle coloring page, among other special holiday projects and crafts.
Today, I am sharing this cute and super customized wall display that would be great to have not only shown at church, but great for a business to share places, people or even organizations they are supporting.
Let’s get into the simple steps of making this Shine Your Light art installation!
What supplies do I need for a special Christmas wall display?
- Flat Wooden Ornaments
- Black Sharpie Marker
- Wooden Star Ornaments
- IKEA Tree Wall Card Display (similar) (you can also create your own “tree” using ribbon or garland)
- Sticky Tac
- Acrylic Paint
- Gold Foil paint pen
- Cardboard (for sign + star)
- White Punched Snowflakes
How to make a Shine Your Light Display
This is really such a simple setup, but it is such a beautiful reminder that Jesus is shining His Light down on ALL of us! I love that you could also do this to highlight organizations you are supporting, friends you are thinking of and so much more.
Paint the wooden ornaments
Begin by painting the wooden ornaments. I used simple acrylic paint in Green, Sage, Gold, Silver and Black for this.
After the paint was dry, I used a black sharpie marker and wrote many of our surrounding neighborhoods and communities in Albuquerque since this was a “Jesus shine your light in…” project.

Hang Display Tree
To hang the tree display on the wall, I used a small nail at the top of the ribbon and then used sticky tac to hang each of the wooden ornaments.
Add extra decor
I also added some small paper snowflakes and a few wooden star ornaments.

This was a great Christmas display for our church, but also would be a wonderful idea to make for people you’d like to pray for or organizations you’d like to highlight and support. The options to make this project work for you are really quite endless!
