Meringue Cookie Wreaths

Meringue Cookies:

Meringue is a airy sweet dessert that is often made out of simple egg whites, sugar and a few other ingredients. Meringue is so light and airy that it melts on your tongue.  It reminds me of a much lighter and more tasty marshmallow.

Christmas Cookie Wreaths

Meringue around Christmas time:

Growing up, my Grandma Marge always made the best desserts at Christmas time.  She would spend weeks prior to Christmas baking away in her kitchen.  When we arrived at Grandma’s house a few days before Christmas, she would lead us into her back room to help start bringing out the cookies!

She left her back room with the vent closes and with the door closed, it stayed quite chilly in there… the perfect little cookie storage center, ha.  I shared a few years ago about Grandma Marge’s Spritz cookies, which are still some of my favorites.

But another favorite of mine were her meringue cookies.  Now many may argue that meringue are not cookies and that is probably technically correct, but they are delicious and a dessert and we just call them cookies.

How do I make Holiday Meringue Wreath Cookies?

Once your meringue “batter” has been made, you can fill you piping bag up.  Be sure to cut a hole in your bag and  insert your piping tip first.  Next, start to pipe out fun festive wreath shapes.  I noticed if I did a little up and down wiggle with my hand, it made ripples and looked more wreath like.

I also made small ball ornament shapes and little holly leaves.

Be sure to add red hot cinnamon candies and edible silver balls to decorate your wreaths, ornaments and holly leaves.  I just dipped the candies lightly in water and then they stuck perfectly to the meringue!
