You know the saying, “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade”?  Well, that’s exactly how I feel about our Apricot tree!  In theory having fruit trees in your backyard sounds so dreamy.  In reality, they are a pain and as they drop their fruit, a huge mess.  So after living in this house for eight years, when our apricots started to ripen on the tree, I gathered them up and made jam!  Folks, when life hands you apricots, make jam!

On Saturday, I handed each of my kiddos a paper bag and off to the apricot tree we went.  We collected two full bags and there are pleeeenty still to gather.

After getting back from Alt Summit, I’m on a bit of a Martha high so when looking for a good apricot jam recipe I went to the master.  Here is a quick *video from Martha Stewart that shows the steps I followed.

I’m not quite sure why it’s taken me eight years to do something more with all those apricots than just eat them plain.  And I was always intimidated by the sound of “making jam” but honestly it was so simple!

Do you all make fruit jams?  I’ve got about 2,000 more apricots sitting on our tree, so please pass along any other ideas for an overflow of apricots.  I need more than one Apricot Jam Recipe!

  1. My mouth is watering! I love apricots, but haven’t had apricot jam in ages. That’s about to change! Thanks for linking up with The Caffeinated Crafters!

  2. Amy….I am a wee bit jealous that you were able to go to Alt….I’m also thrilled for you. 😉 You are on your way to blogstardom now for sure!!

Your jam looks amazing. How fun that you finally made some. You’ll be loving it all winter long. I use apricot jam along with BBQ sauce for meatballs that I warm in the crock pot for holiday gatherings. Yum. I noticed that Grandparents Plus linked up a recipe for apricot muffins that looked amazing.

Thanks for sharing your jam with us at Project Inspire{d}!

  3. I love fruit trees! The jam sounds delicious. I bet your apricots would dry well in a food dehydrator. Maybe another way to prepare them? I love dried apricots. 🙂

  4. Oh man, this looks so good! I love that you picked the apricots with the kiddos–what a fun summer activity. I grew up with a bunch of fruit trees in the backyard and I miss them terribly–one day I’ll get around to planting some here in Michigan 🙂

  5. Looks so yummy Amy! My friend and I have a tradition of making jam every year when I go visit her. It is a fun process and so delicious. And your photos are awesome 🙂

    1. Thanks, Katie! I’m trying to channel Martha, that’s for sure, ha. Well sort of fun to have an apricot tree… so many apricots it ends up being like an apricot graveyard on the ground.

  6. Hi Amy! I’m visiting from Selene’s blog. I LOVE apricots!! It’s my favorite kind of jam. When my mom makes kolaches, she knows to make plenty of apricot ones for me. 🙂 How nice to have your very own apricot tree! I love dried apricots too. I bet your jam was delicious!
