My kid’s are now both in Middle school so we have had numerous Christmas years trying out different versions of holiday advent activities. We’ve done a Christmas activity Advent Calendar, I’ve wrapped 25 books to be read each day of December and most recently and the one that has stuck is a simple Christmas Book Box.

There is something that is freeing about letting the high expectations go and setting out a wooden crate filled with favorite Christmas, holiday and religious books that we go to year after year.

You can read more below about each of the different ways we have celebrated the month of December below…

Christmas Advent Calendar

Many years ago I did a colorful Christmas advent calendar with fun printable Christmas related “challenges” all December long.

It was such fun, but after a while with two very young children – it started to feel more like a long to-do list and less like joyful holiday fun.

You can find all the Christmas Activities I shared printed out in this blog post. I included more than 25 so you can pick the ones that best suit your family.

25 Wrapped Holiday Books

A few years after doing all the Christmas activities each day, I made a new plan. I wrapped 25 Holiday, Christmas and religious books and each night we would open one book together.

That tradition lasted much longer, but honestly… wrapping 25 books then started to feel like a big job each December.

You can find some of my FAVORITE children's Christmas books here.

What is my favorite part of this Christmas project?  I must say the ball ornament is so simple and gorgeous.  I love that it’s raw ceramic.  You could paint it to match your decor or simply leave it as is!

Also I really love the little sprigs of greenery.  I used faux eucalyptus and a bit of holly + berries.  I think it adds just a fun wintery charm to the craft.

Don’t forget to pin this project now and save it for your next crafting session before December starts.
