The holiday season is upon us.  As soon as November 1st hits, it always feels like a bit of a mad dash.

However, the past few years I have really strived to intentionally do the opposite and instead of creating turkey shaped butter for the table, shopping for Christmas gifts like a wild person and attending 99 Christmas parties, I try to do less.

Less not only in what I do, but also less in my decor, table settings and stress.

How do I decorate my Thanksgiving table on a budget?

This year, when I started thinking about Thanksgiving and the soon to be Christmas season, minimal was the word that came to my mind.  I still will do lovely.  I still will do festive.  I still will eat all the turkey.  I still will decorate.  But this year I want to aim for a more minimal view on it all.  So, with all that in mind I’m sharing my Minimal Thanksgiving Table Decorations today.

Here are 8 ways to decorating your table on a budget –

  • Use Natural Elements
  • Shop your Home
  • Get creative with your centerpiece
  • Use placemats and runners
  • Add personal touches
  • Shop at thrift stores and dollar stores
  • Make your own decorations
  • Ask your guests for help

How to make Minimal Thanksgiving Table Decorations

There are many easy ways to make your own Thanksgiving table decorations. For example, you can make place cards by decorating index cards with fall foliage or stamps. You can also make your own centerpiece by arranging fruit, vegetables, or gourds in a bowl.

It’s not me without a bit of color, so I knew I wanted to bring in color through a few sparsely placed tea light holders in orange, soft pink and fuchsia.

I found a bouquet of seeded eucalyptus at my local grocery and I knew it would become the main greenery on my table.

Make a Thanksgiving Floral Centerpiece

To make my flower centerpiece, I started in the middle with three rusty coral Spider Chrysanthemums.

Then, I placed peach carnations encircling the mums.  Carnations are typically not my favorite flower but they come in such a wide variety of color and they are so inexpensive that I’ve found them to be ideal when used correctly.

Lastly, I snuck some baby’s breath at the very bottom to finish off the vase.

To finish off the minimal look, I set out my simple white dishware from West Elm.

Budget Friendly Centerpiece Ideas

You don’t need to spend a lot of money on a centerpiece. A simple bowl of fruit, a basket of gourds, or even a vase filled with fall foliage can look beautiful.

Here are some other ideas for inexpensive centerpiece ideas –

  • Mini Gourds
  • Small Pumpkins
  • Pinecones
  • Candles
  • Flowers
  • Family Photos
  • Vase of twigs or branches
  • Bowl of Fruit
  • Stack of beautiful books
  • Fall Leaves
  • Acorns

And I forever love pulling out our “fancy” Rose gold silverware.  I also recently saw they have a Gold Silverware set now and I’m loving that one, too.

Nature really does provide a wealth of free and inexpensive decorations for your Thanksgiving table.

Many people grow eucalyptus in their yard, but if you don’t you can always gather leaves, pinecones, acorns, and other fall foliage. Arrange them in a vase or bowl or even scatter them down the center of your table for a simple modern look.

And before I ever head to the store, I make sure to look around my home to see if I have any items that I can use to decorate table.

Items like vases, bowls, candlesticks, and even books can be used to create a beautiful tablescape.

And don’t underestimate the ease of using ribbons and even spray paint to make your table the colors you want it to be.

All in all, setting this Thanksgiving table took me maybe 30 minutes and that included creating the floral arrangements.

If you are looking for easy, elegant, minimal and all the while pretty this Thanksgiving… I would encourage you to invest in a few bouquets of flowers and letting the rest be simple!
