Spring Afternoons spent with Friends

I adore celebrating Spring afternoons with a few girlfriends and a glass of wine.  There is something about spending a long day with the children running under foot, then hopping over to a friend’s home and enjoying a late afternoon glass of wine while the kids play outside.  Spring afternoons spent with friends can do wonders for a mama’s soul!

When we lived in New Mexico, I started an end of the week mom’s happy hour with a few close friends.  Each Friday we would rotate homes and the hostess would provide a beverage and light appetizers.

It was such a wonderful time of sharing life together, enjoying each other’s company and our children always looked forward to spending time playing with their best friends, too.

Now that we have moved to the Midwest, I am happy to report I’ve started a Midwest chapter – ha! As the weather continues to warm up for Spring, there are a few simple steps to creating a relaxing and lovely table setting for your next mom’s get together.  I always a pick up a bouquet of fresh flowers or even take a few cuttings from your own backyard to set on display at the table.

Another easy idea is to bring in color with cheerful cocktail napkins and plates.  I think cloth napkins are best, as you can easily throw them in the wash after a party.  Plus, with so many light and spring filled fabric choices out there, you can always find a fabric to match your afternoon theme!

I found these simple gold rimmed plates at my local thrift store and knew they would be the perfect touch for an afternoon with my girls.

And the last key element to a relaxing and lovely afternoon is a lovely glass of wine.  One of my go to options is Gloria Ferrer.  Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards is Carneros’ original sparkling wine house, owned and founded by the Ferrer family of Spain. The winery opened in 1986 in Sonoma County.  I would love to visit in person someday!

At 335 acres under vine, the estate vineyards at Gloria Ferrer is known as experts in the production of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and produce estate grown still and sparkling wines that rival some of the world’s finest.

And I can happily attest, I enjoyed both the Pinor Noir and Chardonnay and they were superb.  I am not surprised at all to find out their wines have earned over 400 gold medals and fifty 90+ scores in the last 5 years.

I’m not picky… I’ll take either! But you are right, white does seem better once the weather warms up.
